RTI calls for students’ progress to be monitored continually throughout the year. In September, January and June teachers use universal screening tools to assess student progress formally against district benchmarks. In the intervening months teachers use a variety of formative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction to ensure that students are constantly matched with appropriate texts.
