Communication
Materials in this section reflect our efforts to communicate the rationale, principles, and details of our approach to instructional leadership through mini-observations to a range of stakeholders: district faculty, parents, Board of Education, colleagues in other districts, and even Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch!
Among the artifacts is Kim Marshall’s interactive session for the entire district faculty in 2012 including the feedback he gathered from 450+ teachers using “clickers” which clearly endorses a move to frequent, unannounced mini-observations. Also included are presentations to the Board of Education and to the district’s Parent-Teacher Council. Dr. Shaps’s keynotes opening the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years place a clear emphasis on professional feedback and social-emotional learning.
Finally, we’ve included images from Chancellor Tisch’s 2014 visit to Mamaroneck (which included a candid meeting with our APPR committee and classroom visits at Chatsworth Avenue School), an article that appeared in the Journal News about Mamaroneck’s approach to teacher evaluation via unannounced mini-observations, and an editorial calling for Chancellor Tisch to step down that cites her visit to Mamaroneck.
