Access to Digital Texts via Bookshare and Learning Ally

Federal law mandates access to educational materials for individuals with disabilities and allows for copyrighted digital texts to be made available to people with print-related disabilities. Mamaroneck UFSD provides students with qualifying disabilities access to digital texts from several resources. Two key resources are Bookshare and Learning Ally:

Bookshare

Bookshare is an online, searchable library of electronic texts that is free to students with visual, physical, or learning disabilities that prevent them from accessing print.32625/p100944624_12542.jpg

Once students are registered on Bookshare, they can download books, newspapers, and textbooks. They can then read these texts using software that reads the book aloud (text-to-speech), displays the text of the book on a computer screen, or presents the text via a Braille display.

You can access Bookshare.org here.

Learning Ally

Students can browse for audiobooks, then download and listen to them on computers, laptops, mobile devices (e.g., iPads, iPhones, and Android devices) or DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) Devices.
